Dan has been with us for about 12 months now, so I thought to check in and see how he is travelling with life at Office Solutions IT. Let's hope he's doing better than his beloved Manchester United! 🙏

Life @ OSIT - Dan Pavic-min

Dan, it's been 12 months since you came aboard, but before we get into it, can you tell us what were you doing before you joined OSIT?

I was studying civil engineering and building and construction – and while I was looking for a job, I got the chance to do some decommissioning work for OSIT – this basically involved securely wiping data from old computer equipment. And after a few months or so, OSIT offered me a full-time position.

What was it about OSIT that made you want to accept the position?

Well, they created a whole new role for me which was impressive. They made the role a little more technical, which meant that I got to be hands-on with some of the technical tasks that our support teams did – like imaging new computers and getting them ready for deployment. It was a pretty exciting opportunity, so I didn’t think twice.

In your, opinion what is something that is uniquely OSIT?

Walking upstairs and, before you know it, you’re caught in the middle of a nerf battlefield!! Note to self: Don't walk upstairs unarmed. 💥🔫

Can you remember your first month at OSIT? What was it like?

Well, I was here for a few months before being offered the full-time position and officially starting, so I knew the whole team. I settled in quickly – it was pretty daunting because I had never used the software and systems that OSIT use before, so I spent my first 2 weeks getting my head around the systems. And everyone made it really easy – the team were always around in case you needed to ask questions. Everyone is really supportive and approachable – even the directors.

What are you working on now?

I am working on the Windows 7 end of support campaign. Helping our IT Managers with quotes and reports to identify customer computers that are in need of upgrades or replacements to get ready for when Microsoft pull the plug on Windows 7 support in 2020.

Can you share your aims and goals for the next 12 months?

That’s tough because I feel like every month I am taking on more responsibility and learning a bunch of new things. It’s a pretty fast-paced environment – one week you’re asking questions about a process and the next week you’re running the process. It’s pretty hands-on, so I guess I plan on just developing the role and continuing to learn at the rapid pace that I am.

What’s surprised you most about working at OSIT?

The opportunities! There are just so many avenues to develop your knowledge and career. I didn’t know much about the training academy when I joined. But if you want to learn a new role or a new skill, you can just apply for one of the internal courses that they run and get involved.

If you could give applicants one tip for landing a job at Office Solutions IT what would it be?

Just be genuine. Our culture interview process is an opportunity for you to show us who you are and if you’re genuine, happy and down to earth that goes a long way.

And finally, can you share one thing you love about working for OSIT?

For me it’s the different projects that we work on. One week you could be wiping data and the next, you’re involved in building a campaign to replace and upgrade thousands of computers. Every week is different – it’s an exciting place to be!

Get a career that generates bigger opportunities. And broader smiles :)
